I thoroughly enjoyed reading Karen’s book. It’s easy to understand, flows beautifully, and addresses immediately the key challenges we all face at the onset of a project. I love the way she breaks the information down into digestible components. And she’s right, a new home or a re-do project can quickly become overwhelming. Her system provides a way to manage/control the physical as well as psychological processes at work.
I also like the way she introduces the benefits of bringing a design professional into the mix. It’s very low key/low pressure but highlights what an experienced eye and objective perspective can bring to bear. Perfectly balanced. And will be well received.
My daughter struggles with a small house, tiny/dark rooms, and a growing family. Those little rooms were fine when her daughter and son were babies, but now there are real challenges. I envision her being gripped by the possibilities of the worksheets and upcoming chapters. She is bright, creative, and imaginative, however, she has looked at the house and its inner space for so many years, its difficult to envision new options and potential. And although both she and her husband are professionals, their resources are limited. So on all levels, Karen’s words resonate.
It’s given me plenty to think of in my own home as well.
